Gus signs on TSS Lake Michigan on 10 September 1913 and makes 18 voyages. With the beginning of World War 1  troops are brought in from the different parts of the British Commonwealth

S.S. 'Lake Michigan'  Liverpool

On November 15, 1916, the TSS 'Lake Michigan' in route from Montreal to Brest & London
struck a mine off Brest set by UC 18, commanded by Kptlt. William Kiel
and was able to make it into port and be repaired without suffering any casualties.


                 
           
On April 16, 1918, the T.S.S. Lake Michigan is torpedoed
93 miles NW of Eagle Island by the German U-boat 100.
U-100 surfaces and prepares to fire it's deck gun.

Gus made 18 voyages aboard the T.S.S. 'Lake Michigan' beginning in 1913
carrying troops and supplies to Gallipoli and France. On November 15, 1916
,she struck
 a mine off Brest and was able to make it into port and be repaired.
